Patronage Basics

Ever read a story that you really liked? One that just happened to push all of your buttons? Found yourself wishing with all of your heart that story had a sequel so you could see more of it? Trust me, I've been there too many times too! If any of my stories fits that bill for you, here's the possibility to help me out by, instead of commissioning me, putting a sequel to any of the stories you love right in front of my writing queue.

I'm passionate about each and every story I write. All of them come from a mix of inspiration and hard work! There's too many of them I wish I could continue, many of them already with plans on it, but writing is a long process and I just don't have the time to do it all. Here's where the Patronage possibility comes in!

In order to sponsor a sequel to a story of mine, first take a good look at this page. It should contain all the information regarding how it works, how much it costs and what you get for it. After you've done that, if you're sure you'd like to sponsor one of my stories, head out to the patronage form page and fill it out. After that I'll contact you talk things out and work out the payment details.

Patronage usually opens alongside commissions! You can check the patronage status in the header of this page. Announcements are usually made in all of my communication channels when commissions and patronage opens.

Pricing and Payment

The price for Patronage is roughly half the price of a commission. Since with Patronage the customer has less control of the story it is fair for it to be cheaper. It still kind of depends of the size of story though since long stories take many, many hours to write.

The price to sponsor a story sequel varies between $30.00 to 90.00 (USD).

It is easy to tell which way it leans judging by the length of the story that is getting a sequel. Sequels usually keep around the length of their precursors because they take roughly the same amount of character development and plot to be consistent.

Basically, if you're asking for a sequel of a short story, then it's likely that the sequel won't be that long either and the price will hover at or close to $30.00. If you want a sequel to a large, developed story then it's bound to be longer and the price will hover around (but max at) $90.00.

I will, of course, tell you the the price of the expected length of the sequel beforehand and you can decide on whether you want to go through with it or not. No hard feelings!

Payment is made solely through PayPal to caninewill@gmail.com just as with commissions. For Patronage, full payment is required right before I begin writing it.

What You Get

When you sponsor a story sequel of my own you still get a few extra things:

  • Commission priority: As stated before, sponsored stories get the same high, soon to be delivered and weekly updates priority a commission does.
  • Exclusive pre-access: I'll give the sponsor access to the document where I'm writing the sequel. You can keep up with its development just like a commission and make comments on it if you'd like.
  • Credit and thank you note: When the story sequel is done and posted, the sponsor will get credit for sponsoring it and a thank you note in its description as its patron. This is optional if the sponsor prefers to remain anonymous, of course.

Rules and Eligibility

Patronage does have a few rules and limitations. First and foremost, unlike with commissions, the patron still does not have full control of where the story is going. I am particular with sequels of my stories with my characters, so the plotline and events of the sequel will still be majorly up to me. I do take ideas, suggestions, comments and if there are any preferences I will gladly listen to them and take them to heart, but I can't promise I will deliver on them if I feel like it's not consistent with where I am taking the story.

Patrons can however be sure that a sequel will stick to the theme of the main story. It is very, very rare for a sequel to vary wildly from its precursor so you can be sure that many of the same main kinks and elements of the precursor will still be featured in the sequel.

Not all stories are eligible for a sequel through patronage. Stories that I wrote as a commission to someone else cannot receive a sequel through patronage because the commissioner has the rights of it. Stories that are tagged as collaboration might be eligible. I'd say most of them are, but you will have to inquire if that's what you want. To know whether a story is a commission, a collaboration or neither, I usually write everything about it in its description above the story where I post it. I also suggest checking my stories page and finding the story there. If it has a Commission or Collaboration tag, then it might not be eligible. If you're not sure if a story is eligible but really want a sequel, feel free to ask me by shooting me an e-mail or message/note in any of my media platforms and I'll gladly look into it.
