Commission Information

Commission Status: CLOSED

The Basics

So you'd like a story commission from me? First of all, thank you! In a commission, we work together to create a story that fits everything you enjoy and want to see! My goal when writing a commission is working together to craft a story that is good, interesting and satisfies everything you want to see in it.

To get a commission from me, first of all make sure I'm open for them. My twitter and journals are the best source of information to know when I'll be opening for commissions, but the commission status up above on the page's header is always accurate as well. The form will be available as long as it states that commissions are open!

All the information you need about commissioning me should be in this page. If you have any further questions don't hesitate to send me an e-mail at caninewill@gmail.com or a note/message in any of my media websites!

After you've gone through everything and you're sure you're ready you want a commission, awesome! Make sure you read the "How it Works" session below and then fill up the commission form in the commission form page!

How It Works

Here's a detailed description of my commission process:

When I announce that my commissions are open, there's no need to hurry! My commissions are not first-come-first-serve. That means that it doesn't matter when you submit your idea. As long as it is within the period that my commissions are open, it will be considered!

Commissions usually stay open for 3 to 4 days to make sure that everyone has time to think up their ideas and submit their forms.

Unfortunately, that also means that submitting a form with an idea does not 100% guarantee that the commission will be taken. After the commission period ends, I will go through all the received queries and pick out the ideas that better resonate with me. How many stories get picked each time the commission window opens depends on my current availability and the length of the picked proposed stories.

I will contact everyone that has submitted an idea into the form at some point up to five days after the commission window closes. I will contact you regardless of if I picked your commission up or not just so you have some feedback.

Writing is a long process and each story takes many hours of work to come to fruition. Because of that, I often do not pick too many stories to work on at once. I can only work on so many of them simultaneously and I don't want to leave anyone waiting several weeks just to see me get started on their story.

That also means, however, that I can open the commission window more often. When I finish a batch of chosen commissions, chances are I'll be opening it again pretty soon. If your idea wasn't picked in the first time, feel free to resubmit it again, or submit a new idea if you thought of something else, and eventually it is bound to be picked.

If your submitted idea is vague or not very concise, I might contact you to ask you more details about it before making the final decision regarding whether it will enter the current round of commissions or not. Try to be clear when describing the idea and elements that you like when submitting the form!

After the chosen ideas are picked and everyone is contacted, I will move on to discussing the outline of the stories with the people that were picked this time around and only then do we move on to the first payment.

In summary (tl;dr):

  • Keep an eye out for when the open commission window starts and end through my announcement on my media websites. (Lasts for 3-4 days)
  • When the window is open, submit your idea using the commission form page.
  • Wait for my feedback on whether your query was taken for this round or not. (Up to 5 days after the commission window closes)
  • If it was picked, yay! We'll discuss the idea, form an outline and proceed to payment. If it wasn't picked this time, I'm sorry! Feel free to resubmit it again next time!

Pricing & Payment

Pricing

My commission price for stories is based on the amount of words the story contains. A longer story is more developed and might feature more scenes, but it is also both harder and lenghtier to write.

My price is $0.015 per word (USD).

That means $1.50 for every 100 words or $15.00 for every 1000 words.

I always round the price to the lowest 100s point, which means that a story with 5500 words story costs $82.50 and a 5599 words story also costs $82.50 as it is rounded down to the 5500 words price.

Now the question is: how do I know how long of a story to get?

When we sit down to talk about your ideas, I'll use the best of my judgement and experience writing to try to give you an estimate of how long of a story all the ideas you want to put in would make. We can then shorten or lengthen it based on your preference and how much you're comfortable paying for the story.

You also have the right to give me a fixed max story size for your story that equals the max amount you are willing to pay. With that maximum in mind, I will do my best to keep the story around that size and, should it go past that size, that will be on me and you will only pay for the previously agreed max amount.

Here's a few examples to help give an idea of what can fit in stories of different lengths:

Small, smut-focused stories:

  • The Breaking Game: 3483 words, therefore it would cost $51.00 (SoFurry | FurAffinity)
  • Lifeguarded: 5292 words, $78.00 (SoFurry | FurAffinity)
  • Outplayed: 5668 words, $84.00 (SoFurry | FurAffinity)

Longer, well-developed stories:

  • Objection: 10183 words, $151.50 (SoFurry | FurAffinity)
  • Vulpine Politics: 11564 words, $172.50 (SoFurry | FurAffinity)
  • In-Between Adventures: 11719 words, $175.50 (SoFurry | FurAffinity)

You can use this tool to help calculate the price a story of a certain length would have:

Payment

I take payments only through PayPal. My PayPal address is caninewill@gmail.com.

I take half the payment upfront and the other half after the complete story draft is done. That means that you pay half of that upfront after we're all settled with your ideas and outline and I'm ready to begin and then the rest when the story is done. As stories may vary in size, you might end up paying slightly more or slightly less than the first payment depending on the final length of the story after all of our revisions.

Example 1:

We've discussed all of your ideas and judging by everything you want to see happen in the story, I've given you a rough prediction that your story will amount to around 6000 words, which means the story would cost a total of $90.00. That means that, once all is settled and I'm ready to start, I will require an upfront payment of $45.00, which is half of that. After the story is developed and edited, the final length didn't quite amount to 6000 words, but instead it sat at 5400 words. That means that you will pay what is left up to the worth of 5400 words (rounded down), which is $36.00. That amounts to the $81.00 that a 5400 word story is worth.

Example 2:

We've discussed all of your ideas and I've given you a rough prediction that your story will be around 10000 words, which means the story would cost $150.00. I will require the upfront payment of $75.00 for half that length. You've also given me a maximum of 12000 words because you can't pay more than $180.00 under any circumstance. As the story was developed, turns out I was wrong! The story ended up with a whopping total of 13500 words which would amount to a cost of $202.50. Since you had your maximum set at 12000, however, you will only be required to pay the second half up to the maximum, which will be $105.00 to total up to a 12000 word story cost and the rest will be on me.

Completion Time and Process

Stating the obvious first: the longer the story, the longer it takes to write. Writing is a long process and I'm not the fastest writer, nor is it my full-time job. Commissions will always have priority over other work, so I'll always be actively working on all commissions after the first payment is done.

You will have access to the google docs document to see the draft progress as it happens and provide any feedback you wish as the story is constructed. All stories usually take from one to a few weeks to be done from the first draft to the final revisions. The first story draft is bound to be rough, but after the draft is done and all modifications are made, there's still a reviewing process where I go over the whole story one or two times and re-do all typos, weird phrasings, duplicate wording and everything that is necessary to make sure the text is polished and at its best version.

I strive to work on all commissions at the very least once a week, so you can expect weekly updates in the document.

Story Rights

I reserve the right to post all commissions on my profiles and social media after they're done with proper thanks and credit to you as its commissioner. This, however, is not final. I will not post a piece if the commissioner asks me not to nor will I post their names if they prefer to remain anonymous.

When you pay me to write a story you are paying for my time writing and my skill in writing to create a product. Once the product is created, it belongs to you, though I still retain authoring rights. This means that, once the story is done and payment is made, the story is yours to do as you wish with it. You may post it anywhere you want or just keep it to yourself. The only thing I ask is a mention or link to me as the author when possible. You cannot claim to have written the story yourself.

All the characters that feature in a story you commissioned belong to you, unless they were already someone else's characters used with their permission to begin with. Even characters I come up with or develop myself for the purposes of your story still belong to you, so you are free to use them as if they were yours to get art of them done, use them in stories written by other authors, roleplay them, etc.

I will say, however, that I write a great many stories and often around similar themes. Every now and then a character from one story might look or feel slightly similar to another character created in a commission for similar purposes (especially if there's a clash of characteristics such as species). That is not intentional in any way. Each character is unique to each story and, even if you see something similar elsewhere, the characters in your story still belong to you.

The Do's and Don'ts

Below is a list of all the things I will and won't write about. The different kinks and themes are separated in tags and are classified within four categories:

  • Love: I love writing things involving these! I often feel inspired to and excited about writing about these themes.
  • Like: I like writing things involving these. I'm very comfortable with those themes and enjoy them in all regards.
  • Maybe: I might write about these. It's either not quite my cup of tea or I'm not used to writing about them, but depending on theme and context I might! Doesn't hurt to ask.
  • Nope: I will not write about these. I either don't particularly enjoy them myself or don't trust my knowledge and skills to write these themes well.

If you have any doubts about a theme in particular or want anything not listed there, ask! I won't mind, really.
